Staying informed

Questions about Phase 1

What if I gave up an appointment, can I get it back?
At this point in time, I need every opening there is to spread out all of the existing appointments. To limit the the people coming in and out of the studio I am reducing the number of daily appointments to one, rather than two. This will give me extra time for cleaning between clients.

What are your added protective measures?
On top of my standard universal cleaning procedures, I will be cleaning all non-procedural surfaces as well. Hand sanitizer will be available when you enter the room. If you need to use the restroom during your appointment, you may sanitize upon re-entry. The property manager has assured me that the facilities will be cleaned daily as well as walk throughs throughout the day. I have transitioned over to the use of scrubs to be worn for each appointment, for use in the studio only. I will be wearing a clean reusable mask for the duration of your tattoo appointment.

What if I'm sick on the day of my appointment?
Please tell me if you are sick, even if it is not COVID-19 and you are experiencing different symptoms. I am waiving my cancellation fee until further notice. It is not worth the risk for either of us. We will default to your next appointment and add another appointment later in the year.

Can I pay with cash?
The guidelines are strongly encouraging touchless payments with cards. That being said, I will still accept cash, but I will be using gloves to handle it.

Will you contact me before my appointment?
I will be contacting you before your appointment. The normal automated reminders will still be going out, but there may be some adjustments to the schedule that we will need to be in contact about. If you have an upcoming appointment you can expect to hear from me via email within the next couple of weeks.
Are you accepting any new clientele?
Until we have had some time to resolve a massive amount of cancellations and reschedules, I will not be taking on any new projects. I think it is likely that I will not open the submission form until early 2021. It will be announced in the newsletter when the time comes.

Is there anything I need to do before my appointment?
I will be sending out a questionnaire on the morning of your appointment as required by the state. Please, answer the questions truthfully for everyone's safety.
Until further notice, a mask is required for the duration of your appointment. This is mandatory, and I will have to turn you away if you do not have one on when you arrive. I do not have room for extra storage, so I am not able to provide one for you at this time.

What will be in the questionnaire?
The following questions are required during Phase 1:

  • Have you had a new or worsening cough?
  • Have you had a fever?
  • Have you had shortness of breath?
  • Have you been in close contact with any of these symptoms or anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days?

What if I live out of town or state?
Health experts are recommending staying local until the risk is not as acute. If you have to travel more than 50 miles to attend your appointment, we should reschedule to later in the year. It won't always be like this, but until we can guarantee your health and safety we should respect their recommendations.

What if I want to bring a friend?
For now, there are no guests allowed. To limit the number of people and subsequent exposure I must request that you come to your appointment alone. You can have your friend drop you off and pick you up, but they must remain outside if they are waiting.

Keeping everyone up to date

We have been at this pandemic thing for a couple of months now. It has been such a different experience for all of us. Some of us are working, with little change to our daily structure. Some of us are at home full time with kids and are feverishly working every day to find routine and structure to pass the day. Some of us lost our jobs and the productivity that we depend on for fulfillment and financial security. Even though the impact varies greatly, we are still experiencing it together. This has been a soothing aspect to the whole situation, for me.

It seems that we are now in a holding pattern here in Multnomah County. Small businesses are all anticipating reopening and being able to serve our dedicated clientele once again. I have been making preparations to adhere to the new guidelines being released by the state of Oregon. In order to accommodate both required and recommended provisions, I am making some changes to the process and scheduling. You can read about some of those changes below. Sadly, all of the conventions that I had scheduled for this year have been cancelled. I do not know when my next opportunity to travel will come, but I am looking forward to the day when we are able to do that once again.

What to expect at your next appointment:

  • On the day of your appointment, your reminder text will now include a short questionnaire regarding your health. Please, respond to the number provided with a simple “yes” or “no” and your first and last name. I am required to ask these questions, and may need to report your response to a health official if you later test positive for Covid-19.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided upon entry to the studio, but you will need to provide your own face mask to be worn for the duration of your tattoo appointment. I will not have any extra masks available in the studio, and will have to turn you away if you do not have one on when you arrive.
  • Until further notice, there will be NO GUESTS allowed. Please, leave your friends and family at home. The space is only available for you, during your scheduled appointment.
  • Please, arrive at your appointed time freshly showered and in clean clothes.
  • Remember to bring your own water bottle and snacks if you need them, since many of the nearby businesses are not open.

Schedule changes:

  • ALL consultations will be done over the phone to limit the exposure for everyone.
  • For the time being, I am going to limit the number of appointments to 1 per day to accommodate the extra sanitization of non-procedural surfaces between each client.
  • This means that your appointment could be extended to a full day appointment, in lieu of skipping the following appointment so someone else can get in. The day rate would apply, and would include a lunch break in the middle. I provide some suggestions about full day appointments in the FAQ on the website. Please, let me know if you are interested in this option.
  • I am going to try to alternate months with those clients who share a similar timeline, where applicable.

More posts will be coming soon, but in the meantime I hope this helps clarify some of what's going on. Thanks for reading.
